Tale Of The Phoenix (pre-order)

€9.90

"Tale Of The Phoenix" was composed for a Parma Conservatory concert with CSAC. Focused on "folklore" and "experimentalism," I ventured into AI-assisted creation. The piece's title emerged from AI reflecting on its role and humanity's relationship. The AI's metaphorical self, a phoenix, resonated: "I destroy myself after each input, reborn with new knowledge." The composition encapsulates three human fears as the phoenix soars: tech overtaking work ("Fields once mine"), loss of artistry ("My spirit's flame"), and predictability by AI ("In Mind's Maze"). The piece's genesis blends AI insights with musical impressions.

Program Notes

Tale Of The Phoenix was composed for the summer concert series organised by the Conservatory of Parma (Italy) in collaboration with CSAC (Center for Studies and Archives of Communication) at the University of Parma. Since the concert's theme revolved around the keywords "folklore" and "experimentalism," I decided to try a different approach for the first time. I used AI as an assistance tool, not only for composition but also for the conceptualisation of the piece.

In fact, the title "Tale Of The Phoenix" stems from a reflection I asked the AI to undertake regarding itself, its function, and its relationship with humanity. However, I requested that the AI not follow an analytical approach but instead try to embody a human being reflecting on these topics, seeing itself "outside of itself."

The result was astonishing: metaphorically, the AI imagined a phoenix as its alter ego, stating, "like a phoenix, after each input I destroy myself and reborn from my own ashes, strong with newly acquired knowledge." The piece represents a series of impressions that highlight three fears of humans when witnessing "the phoenix soaring": the fear of seeing their own work superseded by a more efficient system ("Fields once mine"); the fear of no longer being able to produce art ("My spirit's flame"); and the paranoia of no longer being able to be the author of their own thoughts, as they can be easily predicted by AI ("In Mind's Maze").
